Frequently Asked Questions

A Metin2 private server is an independent server that recreates the gameplay of the MMORPG by Ymir Entertainment. The German community calls them "p server". Admins tune the rates, balance and game systems, so every project plays differently — from classic x1 to fast PvP servers.

Servers are grouped by rates and school. Classic / low-rate (x1–x10) offer slow progression and original balance. Mid-rate (x25–x100) is a compromise between pace and farming. High-rate / PvP (x200+) give a fast cap and a combat focus. Oldschool servers recreate the pre-2013 era — without Lycan and Dragon Stone Alchemy.

The Metin2 catalog lists 96 hand-picked private servers as of 2026. The list is updated: new projects are added and inactive ones are removed. Open a server card to see its rates, version and description.

Decide on the pace: classic servers offer slow progression and original balance, high-rate ones let you reach the cap fast and focus on PvP. Check that the key systems work — the Upgrade System, Biologist Quest, Metin Stones and Guild War. Avoid raw builds with broken mechanics.

Yes, registration and play on Metin2 private servers are free. Many projects offer a cash shop, but its impact on balance depends on each server's policy. Classic servers usually limit paid advantages more than high-rate ones.

Private servers are run by independent teams and are not affiliated with Gameforge or Ymir Entertainment. Download the client only from the chosen server's official site, use a separate password and never enter your official Metin2 account details. It is worth checking project reviews before installing.

Metin2 in 2026: how private servers differ from official ones

Metin2 launched in 2004, created by Korean studio Ymir Entertainment (part of Webzen since 2011) and published in Europe by Gameforge. Over two decades the official servers drew community complaints: a heavy item shop, rare balance changes and slow new content. Metin2 private servers offer an alternative — here admins tune the rates, the Yang economy and the game systems themselves. Every project has its own rules, so it is worth testing a server before investing your time.

Dragon Stone Alchemy and custom systems

Dragon Stone Alchemy (commonly called Dragon Soul) was added to the official game in 2013. Private servers often rework it: tuning alchemy odds, dragon stone crafting and Cor Draconis bonuses. Admins also adapt Spirit Stones, the Rune System, Pet System and Costume System to their own meta — the implementation differs per server, and that is one of the things to compare.

Five classes and nine branches

Metin2 has five classes: Warrior, Ninja, Sura, Shaman and Lycan (added in 2014–2015). The first four have two branches each and Lycan has one — nine specializations in total. Body Warrior tanks in melee, Mental Warrior deals area damage. Ninja splits into Assassin (daggers, stealth) and Archer (bow, range). Weaponry Sura is strong up close, Black Magic Sura casts from afar. Dragon Shaman buffs the party, Healing Shaman heals. Lycan turns into a wolf and presses in melee. Balance differs per server — another reason to test a project first.

Criteria for evaluating a Metin2 server before launch

New servers open regularly and some projects close. Look for a stable build and transparent settings rather than loud promises.

What to check before you start

  • Upgrade System: upgrading from +0 to +9 is the core of Metin2. Scroll of Blessing and the Blacksmith should work on clear formulas. If high plus levels are cash-only, that affects balance.
  • Biologist Quest: the biologist quest (NPC Chaegirab) grants permanent bonuses. On low-rate it is weeks of farming, on high-rate just hours. Check that the full chain works.
  • Metin Stones: Metin Stones are the base of PvE and the economy. Respawn, drops and locations must be configured, otherwise Yang farming breaks down.
  • Guild War and Kingdom War: guild and kingdom wars are the main group content. It is worth testing how stable the server stays under large-scale battles.

What to watch for

Weapons and gear bonuses available only for cash shift the balance toward pay-to-win. Broken mechanics — Polymorph, the mount system, the Dragon God Dungeon — signal a raw build. Open a project card, check the rates, version and launch date: brand-new servers have not yet proven their stability.

Compare and choose

The BestGames listing helps you compare Metin2 private servers by rates, type and kingdoms. Open a project card, study its settings and description, then pick the server that fits your playstyle. If you run your own Metin2 server, add it to the catalog so players can find it.
